EVENT & MEETING —  May 30th 9am-1pm – HLABC Open Science Framework Workshop + AGM

by | 16 May 2019

Please join us for a hands-on Open Science Framework workshop and the HLABC Annual General Meeting on Thursday May 30th @ Woodward Library’s Sherrington Room 9:00am-1pm.

Sarah Parker, Engineering Librarian (including Biomedical Engineering) at Woodward Library and also a member of the UBC Open Scholarship Committee , will offer a workshop on using the Open Science Framework (OSF). The OSF is an open source, simple to use, web application that supports the research workflow. It integrates existing tools and technologies, linking to multiple platforms, including Google Drive, Dataverse, GitHub, and Mendeley. It also supports pre-registration and pre-print portals.

In this workshop, we will address some of the aspects that characterize Open Science and how tools like the OSF can help mitigate issues of openness, transparency, and reproducibility in research. Some possible applications for our work include using OSF for protocols and to make our own work more open.

PUBLICATION – Innovations, Challenges & Opportunities within Regional Health Libraries in British Columbia

by | 19 June 2019

Dear HLABC Members,

On behalf of Elisheba Muturi, Chantalle Jack and Shannon Long, please see the final report of the research they developed looking into the regional health libraries (Health Authority and Ministry Libraries), “Innovations, Challenges & Opportunities within Regional Health Libraries in British Columbia.”

The report contains their brief nine page summary as well as multiple appendices: research consent and collection instruments, research results, focus group summary and conference presentations. Their research team received continual support from HLABC including funds that helped pay for the focus group held in December 2016. They presented results of the study at various stages to HLABC in 2016, the joint MLA/CHLA/ICLC conference in 2016 (poster), and at the CHLA/ABSC conference in 2017.
